Spring, a Time for New

It has been months without a blog. No excuse, just didn't happen.

Now on with it!

What do I mean by 'spring, a time for new'?  Trees come back to life, flowers begin to bloom, many animals give birth to their young. This can also be a time to for people to take a look at themselves and see if they are the people that they wish to be. Are we doing what we want to do, acting the way we wish to act, being good members of our communities?

For me, I see our lives as opportunities to learn, adapt, make change, and help others. Otherwise why? I'm not talking religion but just being a person. As people we are driven to survive, to replace ourselves by having children, be social beings and have relationships. Yes, this is a simplistic view but a view that is manageable and something we can live with, be happy and make a difference. At one time I wondered what would make me truly happy. Yes I had my family, friends, things I enjoyed but I was still missing something.

As I have gotten older, my drive to help others in the way of counseling grew. When I was younger I was not sure what to do with myself. I didn't have goals, I was more selfish, I only cared about what I could do to not stand out or step out of my comfort zone. It took me until I was 40 to realize who I wanted to be. This was my 'spring'. A time to look at myself, make changes and this is when I applied to grad school to become a Marriage and Family Therapist. These times, our 'spring' can happen at any time.

Spring, a time for new, can happen if you just open your eyes and your heart to what you truly want to be and how you can make a difference. This can be scary and a tough thing to do. But life is not easy and identifying our likes and dislikes and taking a good look at who we are can be eye opening in good and bad ways. Spring too can be good and bad. It can bring us green grass, blooming flowers and wind, snow, mud.

We determine how it will turn out and are the drivers of our lives. Turn spring into a time a change, just like the season!
